The crafting system would become something I call "Skill Constructor" system.

Instead of using weapons and different attacks with those, your characters can use, "conjure" several, let's say magical, skills, similar to those from MOBA games, with both good standalone and part-of-a-combo skills.

Imagine Super Crate Box or Towerfall with smaller arenas used as battle scenes akin to those from SN:SS and you'd get the idea, not just a straight horizontal plane, but a landscape with some elements being higher than others, maybe some platforms up in the air etc.

Combat system is basically a single-screen platformer game with deeper than usual combat pushed into your typical RPG world similar to SN:SS' one.

Pretty much nothing would be just copied as it was.

Improving on the original is what I hope to do, although it's quite ambitious to say, so I also hope that doesn't sound arrogant.

Unfortunately I can't share the setting/story/characters part, since those belong to my team and not just me (and we haven't gone public with that yet) however, the actual mechanics are still up in the air and have a lot of flexibility, which's why I'm researching a lot of approaches, so I can share what I think about going the SN:SS direction.
